• Our backpacking checklist is your tried-and-true guide to packing smart for overnight hiking trips. The list is intentionally comprehensive so you don’t forget anything important. While hiking with us we will provided some of the gear notated below.

    The Ten Essentials

    The must-haves for safety, survival, and basic comfort:

    1. Navigation - We have you covered

    • Map (with protective case)
    • Compass
    • GPS (optional)
    • Altimeter (optional)

    2. Sun protection

    • Sunscreen
    • Lip balm
    • Sunglasses

    3. Insulation

    • Jacket, vest, pants, gloves, hat (see Clothing, below)

    4. Illumination

    • Headlamp or flashlight
    • Extra batteries

    5. First-aid supplies - We have you covered

    • First-aid kit 

    6. Fire - We have you covered

    • Matches or lighter
    • Waterproof container
    • Fire starter (for emergency survival fire)

    7. Repair kit and tools

    • Knife or multi-tool
    • Repair kits for stove, mattress; duct tape strips

    8. Nutrition - Will will provide some snacks and meals for our overnight trips

    • Extra day's supply of food

    9. Hydration - We have you covered

    • Water bottles or hydration reservoirs
    • Water filter or other treatment system

    10. Emergency shelter

    • Tent, tarp, bivy or reflective blanket

    • Cookset (with pot grabber) - We will provide if needed
    • Dishes or bowls - We will provide if needed 
    • Utensils - We will provide if needed 
    • Cups (measuring cups) - We will provide everyone with a 32oz water bottle
    • Bear canister (or hang bags for food) - We will provide if needed 
    • Nylon cord (50' for hanging food) - We will provide if needed 
    • Backup water treatment - We will provide
    • Collapsible sink or container - We will provide if needed
